I was diagnosed with Pneumococcal Meningitis in mid-April 2006 and was left profoundly deaf as a result. I was 20 months old. I received my first cochlear implant on June 15th 2006 and a second on September 23rd. This is the story of my progress.

The hero of the piece
Despite the dummy withdrawal, the boy remains remarkably cheery and finds coping strategies.
What an adorable little man! I found your blog on a friend of a friend of a friend's blog, or something like that. I am collecting CI blogs to read, since I'm hoping to have CI surgery myself this fall...I have linked to you...I hope you don't mind?
Thank you for putting your story on the web. my daughter will get her implant on monday and reading stories such as Toms makes its easier to deal with the uncertainty and anxiety we are experiencing. She has been hard of hearing since birth and has progressively lost her hearing. She is four. Today we vaccinated her against menigitis and iwll do the same wiht her siblings. thanks again for the wonderful page.
